Theme of the day:Julliard

So I don't really post as much as i would like so once in a while I will put up a post focusing on two books with some kind of theme tying the books together.
This posts theme with be Julliard.

Title:How I Paid for College
 Author:
It's 1983 in Wallingford, New Jersey, a sleepy bedroom community outside of Manhattan. Seventeen-year-old Edward Zanni, a feckless Ferris Bueller-type, is Peter Panning his way through a carefree summer of magic and mischief, sending underwear up flagpoles and re-arranging lawn animals in compromising positions. The fun comes to a screeching halt, however, when Edward's father remarries and refuses to pay for Edward to study acting at Juilliard.
In a word, Edward's screwed. He's ineligible for scholarships because his father earns too much. He's unable to contact his mother because she's somewhere in Peru trying to commune with the Incan spirits. And, in a sure sign he's destined for a life in the arts, Edward's incapable of holding down a job.
So Edward turns to his loyal (but immoral) misfit theater pals to help him steal the tuition money from his father.Along the way Edward also learns the value of friendship, hard work and how you're not really a man until you can beat up your father. (Metaphorically, that is.)

Cover: Passing by this book on a shelf at the library you can't help but notice it sitting there. The cover is loud, intriguing and some might say obnoxious(in a good way). The cover definitely does justice to the story since the story.
My Thoughts: The title instantly drew me in and the inside jacket kept me hooked. The story is ridiculous and far fetched but I absolutely love it.Some parts had me dying of laughter, then the others were heart warming and cute. This book is great for a pick me up but if you're not a fan of books with to much sex scenes and hook-ups this book might not be for you. 3/5

 Title:Lucky Fools
Author: Cohert Voorhees
David Ellison dreams of acting at Julliard, but he's expected to attend nearby Stanford University, just like all of his classmates at hard-driving Oak Fields Prep. As if wasting his private school education weren't enough, David is also on track to destroy his relationship with his girlfriend, Ellen, when he finds himself falling for his new co-star, Vanessa.

With David's Juilliard audition approaching, and his relationship teetering on the brink of disaster, Oak Fields is thrown into chaos as a mysterious prankster begins attacking the school's highest achievers, determined to sabotage their college aspirations. Anyone who excels is a potential target, and David, the star of every play, could be next.

Cover:The cover is of a guy loosing his tie and I feel that this ties in with the book quite nicely. The book is about figuring your self out while dealing with the stress that comes along with life, highschool and deciding what to do next.
My Thoughts: I just finished reading the book above about Edward Zanni and his goal to get to Julliard so when i came across Lucky Fools and realized it had some focus on Julliard i decided to give it a try.I'm glad i did it was a different read for me and I enjoyed it.Reading this you can't help but become invested in David's life.I liked the message that the book built up to and how the ending was a bit of a surprise. This book had me laughing out loud on minute and contemplating my  life choices  the next 4/5

Perfect

Title:Perfect
Author:Ellen Hopkins

A riveting and startling companion to the bestselling Impulse, Ellen Hopkins's Perfect exposes the harsh truths about what it takes to grow up and grow into our own skins, our own selves

Everyone has something, someone, somewhere else that they’d rather be. For four high-school seniors, their goals of perfection are just as different as the paths they take to get there. Cara’s parents’ unrealistic expectations have already sent her twin brother Conner spiraling toward suicide. For her, perfect means rejecting their ideals to take a chance on a new kind of love. Kendra covets the perfect face and body—no matter what surgeries and drugs she needs to get there. To score his perfect home run—on the field and off—Sean will sacrifice more than he can ever win back. And Andre realizes that to follow his heart and achieve his perfect performance, he’ll be living a life his ancestors would never have understood.

The first book I read by Ellen Hopkins was Impulse then after that I was hooked. When I found out that Perfect was a companion book to Impulse I was excited. It's been a few years since I read Impulse so I may have forgot a few details but that didn't matter when reading perfect. Since it's not necessary to read Impulse before Perfect But I would definitely recommend any one to read it and any of Ellen Hopkins other books.

Perfect mostly focuses on Cara, who strives to be perfect to please her overbearing mother and distant father and friends. Kendra who works hard to look perfect she needs the right look, clothes, and perfect body no matter what cost. Sean thinks every things fine as long as he excels at baseball no matter what ,has the perfect girlfriend Cara and juiced up body. Andre who has two paths set out for him,he can follow his dreams of being a dancer or follow his father and mothers path with the right school and career choice. Then there are other characters that blend in the background but also are a big part of the story like Jenna Kendra's younger sister who lives in her sisters shadow and has her own issues to face. Conner Cara's twin bother who went over the edge pushed by stress to be the perfect son. His story is told in Impulse but we get glimpse of what he went though in this story from his sister Cara

The story is captivating and draws the reader into the story desperate to find out what happens next. The cover is eye catching like the majority of Ellen Hopkins books. To me it almost looks like translucent skin with purple writing on it. This story is for anyone who has ever struggled to meet the unrealistic expectation of being Perfect. 5/5

Wren Kochi’s life is full of problems without solutions and wishes that she knows better than to set her heart on. When a mysterious fox arrives from her family in Japan and things she desires begin to land in her lap, she’s torn. It’s tempting to have whatever she desires, whenever she desires. But is the price she’s being forced to pay too high? The mysteries of her absent family and secretive past begin to unravel, and Wren has to decide whether or not she’s going to embrace the powers she was born to command. When long-time crush, sexy, brilliant Jonas Balto, proves to understand her more than she ever imagined possible, Wren finds herself caught between love and family, power and friendship, and peace and desire. Just when she thinks she has it all figured out, she discovers the fight for her life and those she loves has only just begun.

2)Such a RushJennifer Echols

A sexy and poignant romantic tale of a young daredevil pilot caught between two brothers.

High school senior Leah Jones loves nothing more than flying. While she’s in the air, it’s easy to forget life with her absentee mother at the low-rent end of a South Carolina beach town. When her flight instructor, Mr. Hall, hires her to fly for his banner advertising business, she sees it as her ticket out of the trailer park. And when he dies suddenly, she’s afraid her flying career is gone forever.

But Mr. Hall’s teenage sons, golden boy Alec and adrenaline junkie Grayson, are determined to keep the banner planes flying.

3)In Honor by Jessi Kirby.

Honor receives her brother’s last letter from Iraq thee days after learning that he died, and opens it the day his fellow Marines lay the flag over his casket. Its contents are a complete shock:
concert tickets to see Kyra Kelly, her favorite pop star and Finn’s celebrity crush. In his letter, he jokingly charged Honor with the task of telling Kyra Kelly that he was in love with her.

Grief-stricken and determined to grant Finn’s last request, she rushes to leave immediately. But she only gets as far as the driveway before running into Rusty, Finn’s best friend since third grade and his polar opposite. She hasn’t seen him in ages, thanks to a falling out between the two guys, but Rusty is much the same as Honor remembers him: arrogant, stubborn. . . and ruggedly good looking.

Neither one is what the other would ever look for in a road trip partner, but the two of them set off together, on a voyage that makes sense only because it doesn’t.
