Second Chances (The slayer Chronicles )

 Title:First Kill
Author: Heather Brewer
Published: Oct 16 2012

The stakes are life or death

The summer after Joss failed to kill the vampire Vladimir Tod, he gets a second chance to prove himself as a Slayer. He is sent to New York City to hunt down a serial killer that the Slayer Society believes is a vampire. It is up to Joss to lead his Slayer team, and through their detective work, they discover that there are actually four vampire brothers who are on the killing rampage. Joss must use all his skill to save the innocent people of New York City from the murderers. Joss's status as a Slayer depends on it.

*******************
This book had an appearance by Otis and some flashbacks to Joss's little fallout with Vlad, which I kinda loved. Joss is still deal with what happened in the ending of the last book and confused about vampires he has come in contact with three vampires that he genuinely liked, he is starting to question his actions even though he hates what they did to his sister Cecile and keeps havig nightmares.
Jose  messed up bad and the slayer society knows he took a  private job-his misson to kill Vlad- now he has to prove that he can be a hardcore slayer just like the rest of his pals and scary Uncle Abraham who still  pushes his young nephew to his limits because of whatever issues he has.Not to mention he's getting  creepy  texts from Kat, who wants revenge because of what went down in the last book.

Second Chance is a lot more fast paced then the first book and where introduced to a few new characters and get to see the old favorites. Even after reading the second book I'm still not sure how I feel  about Joss I like him a lot more now then when I read  the Vlad Chronicles but certain things bother me about him.To me he's a character you want to like but can't maybe he'll when me over in the next book.Yeah I get he was crushed after his sister died and all that but he seems really obsessed. That sort of makes me dislike him i'm rooting for him to change the slayer socity or to do something epic like that.

The cover was great in typical Heather Brewer fasion it's angst filledand eye cathing. So i really wanted to like this book but i'm not sure I though the first book was okay but this one was sort of lacking.Maybe it's just me so I would still say to give it a try.Hopefully the next book can pull me in but maybe not.2/5

First Kill (The slayer Chronicles )

Title:First Kill

With over a million copies already in print, The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod is still sinking its fangs into new readers every day. Now, bestselling author Heather Brewer brings us the other side of the story, from the perspective of Vlad’s former friend turned mortal enemy: vampire slayer Joss McMillan. This is the first in a series of five books that can be read alongside Vlad Tod or entirely on their own.

Joss McMillan’s perfect life crashes down the night he witnesses his sister’s murder — at the hands of a vampire. He then finds out his family’s secret heritage: They are part of the Slayer Society, a group whose mission is to rid the world of vampires. Joss is their new recruit. As Joss trains, bent on seeking revenge for his sister, he discovers powers that could make him the youngest, strongest Slayer in history. But there is a traitor in the Society, one whose identity would shake Joss to the core . . . if the traitor doesn’t kill him first.

I'm was glad when I found out Joss was going to have his own series. His character was interesting in then Chronicles of Vlad and he seemed so intense and driven. I like that now we can get a see were he came from and how he got that way. I would definitely suggest to anyone to read the chroniclers of Vlad before the Slayer Chronicles it might help to understand some things and characters. If not before at least at some point would work cause its always good to hear two sides of a story.

The characters were all really interesting even the one that didn't last long or were just passing though. They all had different skills and different takes on the way they live.Even though its Joss's story i would love to know more about his uncle Abraham's story because even though he meant well he wasn't exactly my favorite character at all.Abraham is decent as Joss’s uncle, though he tends to come across as a psychotic gym teacher. After reading the Vlad Chronicles  i already had a opinion about Joss and it complete changed I didn't like hime then i did but now i don't know.Yeah I get he was crushed after his sister died and all that but he seems really obsessed. That sort of makes me dislike him  but all in all I loved learning more about the Slayers and their rules, limitations and their initiation process. It was all cool to learn about.

The cover is simple but you can still see all the teen angstI cant wait to see what come next.3/5
