Review: The Wicked Deep

Title: The Wicked Deep
Author: Shea Ernshaw
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Released: March 6th, 2018

Welcome to the cursed town of Sparrow…

Where, two centuries ago, three sisters were sentenced to death for witchery. Stones were tied to their ankles and they were drowned in the deep waters surrounding the town.

Now, for a brief time each summer, the sisters return, stealing the bodies of three weak-hearted girls so that they may seek their revenge, luring boys into the harbor and pulling them under.

Like many locals, seventeen-year-old Penny Talbot has accepted the fate of the town. But this year, on the eve of the sisters’ return, a boy named Bo Carter arrives; unaware of the danger he has just stumbled into.

Mistrust and lies spread quickly through the salty, rain-soaked streets. The townspeople turn against one another. Penny and Bo suspect each other of hiding secrets. And death comes swiftly to those who cannot resist the call of the sisters.

But only Penny sees what others cannot. And she will be forced to choose: save Bo, or save herself.

The Wicked Deep was pretty imaginative, enchanting,  and beautifully eerie. I was hooked from the start.

The book takes place in a town called Sparrow and way back when three sisters were accused of being witches , for their ability to easily seduce married men. They were drowned and because of what was done to them, every year for three weeks starting in June 1st until the summer solstice. The sister posses 3 girls and drown the boys of Sparrow. Not going to lie I loved the fact that the town just passively excepts the fact that every summer a boatload of boys are going to die and 3 girls are going to be possessed

The story revolves around Penny and Bo and the mystery of who's possessed and how to stop the Swan sisters. The romance in The Wicked deep was sweet and also pretty tragic...that plot twist took me by surprised and I almost died. Seriously the ending of this book! Oh my god. I can’t stop thinking about it. Again, SO MANY FEELS.

The cover is so perfect and if you get the hardback of this book then what is under the book jacket is just s freaking pretty.I have so much to say about The wicked Deep but I can't without spoiling it. So I will say that everyone needs to go read this novel!!!4.5/5

Theme Day: Gasp Those Witches!!!

So it hasn't been quite that long since my last theme of the day, however it has been a while. With that being said I thought I would do a theme day about witches sine I have been on a bit of a witch kick these past few weeks.

Enjoy and let me know your favorite witchy books!!!

Title: How To Hang A Witch
Author: Adriana Mather

It's the Salem Witch Trials meets Mean Girls in a debut novel from one of the descendants of Cotton Mather, where the trials of high school start to feel like a modern day witch hunt for a teen with all the wrong connections to Salem’s past.

Salem, Massachusetts is the site of the infamous witch trials and the new home of Samantha Mather. Recently transplanted from New York City, Sam and her stepmother are not exactly welcomed with open arms. Sam is the descendant of Cotton Mather, one of the men responsible for those trials and almost immediately, she becomes the enemy of a group of girls who call themselves The Descendants. And guess who their ancestors were?

If dealing with that weren't enough, Sam also comes face to face with a real live (well technically dead) ghost. A handsome, angry ghost who wants Sam to stop touching his stuff. But soon Sam discovers she is at the center of a centuries old curse affecting anyone with ties to the trials. Sam must come to terms with the ghost and find a way to work with The Descendants to stop a deadly cycle that has been going on since the first accused witch was hanged. If any town should have learned its lesson, it's Salem. But history may be about to repeat itself.

The Cover: The cover is eerie and kinda reminds me of the 90's for some reason.

My Thoughts: I love a good story about witches, and How to Hang a Witch was definitely good. In fact, it was more than that, it was pretty awesome. The twist and turns were pretty awesome but I'm not going to lie that big reveal was pretty obvious. All in all How To Hang A Witch was a good read.I can't wait to read to sequel!!! 4/5

Title: Spellcaster
Author: Claudia Gray

Shimmering with magic and mystery, New York Times bestselling author Claudia Gray’s new novel is sure to draw fans of the Hex Hall and Caster Chronicles series, and fans of the hit CW TV show The Secret Circle

When Nadia’s family moves to Captive’s Sound, she instantly realizes there’s more to it than meets the eye. Descended from witches, Nadia senses a dark and powerful magic at work in her new town. Mateo has lived in Captive’s Sound his entire life, trying to dodge the local legend that his family is cursed - and that curse will cause him to believe he’s seeing the future … until it drives him mad. When the strange dreams Mateo has been having of rescuing a beautiful girl—Nadia—from a car accident come true, he knows he’s doomed.

Despite the forces pulling them apart, Nadia and Mateo must work together to break the chains of his family’s terrible curse, and to prevent a disaster that threatens the lives of everyone around them.

The Cover: Spellcaster's cover is so pretty and soft looking.

My Thoughts: Nadia is a witch in training; however, her training has stopped since the divorce of her parents.I really wish we would have learned more about the divorce and I'm hoping we can learn more about that in the later books. Spellcaster is full of a lot of tropes, stereotypical characters and of course insta-love. I didn't hate this book but it wasn't a favorite. I will probably check out the sequels but I'm not sure..2/5
