Title: #Murdertrending (Murdertrending #1)
Author: Gretchen McNeil
Publisher: Freeform
Release Date: August 7th, 2018

WELCOME TO THE NEAR FUTURE, where good and honest 8/18 citizens can enjoy watching the executions of society’s most infamous convicted felons, streaming live on The Postman app from the suburbanized prison island Alcatraz 2.0.

When eighteen-year-old Dee Guerrera wakes up in a haze, lying on the ground of a dimly lit warehouse, she realizes she’s about to be the next victim of the app. Knowing hardened criminals are getting a taste of their own medicine in this place is one thing, but Dee refuses to roll over and die for a heinous crime she didn’t commit. Can Dee and her newly formed posse, the Death Row Breakfast Club, prove she’s innocent before she ends up wrongfully murdered for the world to see? Or will The Postman’s cast of executioners kill them off one by one?

My Thoughts...

I was able to read the first two chapters on Netgalley, before I purchased the book, and I loved the plot. Dee is your average teenager who is wrongfully convicted of murdering her step-sister Monica....Yep, this book jumps right into the mix! Dee is sent to Alcatraz two-point-oh for punishment. What is Alcatraz two-point-oh? It's a man made prison with a few upgrades, they must work, they are provided housing, and have regular everyday lives...Except they all live on Alcatraz two-point-oh, and are constantly being watched by viewers, everything is broadcast live...They live in a very different dystopian world, where everyone watches but is happy they aren't Dee or anyone else. Dee wakes up after being convicted in a warehouse, realizing that she is the next victim of The Postman app, where you can login and see the convicts of Alcatraz two-point-oh die, because they also live stream the executions of the convicts...Will Dee prove her innocence or Will Dee become the next victim on Alcatraz two-point-oh??

This is my first Gretchen Neil novel, and I enjoy her writing style. At times I actually felt like I was Dee, caught in a sick game, trying to survive. I did think would be more killing but ehhh it reads more like mystery/suspense novel. There were also no references to the actual Alcatraz besides the name, this would have been a nice touch to the novel. But there was an awesome Breakfast Club nod, and it was great! This definitely has the makings of a crappy horror/romantic comedy vibe. My rating is 3.85/4
