Review:Fragile Eternity

Title: Fragile Eternity
Author: Melissa Marr

Seth never expected he would want to settle down with anyone - but that was before Aislinn. She is everything he'd ever dreamed of, and he wants to be with her forever. Forever takes on new meaning, though, when your girlfriend is an immortal faery queen.

Aislinn never expected to rule the very creatures who'd always terrified her - but that was before Keenan. He stole her mortality to make her a monarch, and now she faces challenges and enticements beyond any she'd ever imagined.

In Melissa Marr's third mesmerizing tale of Faerie, Seth and Aislinn struggle to stay true to themselves and each other in a milieu of shadowy rules and shifting allegiances, where old friends become new enemies and one wrong move could plunge the Earth into chaos

********************************

I think out of all the Wicked Lovely books Fragile Eternity and Radiate Shadows are my favorites. Ink Exchange was nice but it was more of a fun side step then continuation.

Fragile Eternity begins where Ink Exchange ends. In Fragile Eternity Seth goes on a journey to be closer to Ash, despite the presence of Keenen and the approach of Summer. Honestly the choice he makes is not unexpected, but the ending did take me by surprise.I loved it. Aislinn is a bit od a mess in this book to honest. She reminded me of Bella in New Moon when Edward left her..yes Ash got that low. What I did love is the deepening friendship between Seth and Niall. Niall is one of my favorite characters, even after he became the Dark Court's King. To know one's surprise Keenen continues to be a fairly unlikable character to me..seriously even when I think hmm maybe he's not so bad he does ridiculous things.

The cover is pretty awesome!! Just like the Wicked Lovely cover there is a girl in the background who is out of focus and there is something in the front(in this case a buttefly) is  in the forefront. Its quite a pretty cover.Fragile Eternity was an excellent book to read and I world highly suggest other to check it out. 3/5

Poems and Poets

So I constantly watch YouTube videos of slam poetry but lately I have also been reading a lot of poetry as well. Here is a short and sweet list of a few books I have read or books I want to read.  I am going to included videos of my favorite poems by said authors from this list.Enjoy the list and comment with any poetry recommendations you might have.

Title: Our Numbered Days
Author: Neil Hilborn

"When you're dumb enough for long enough, you're gonna meet someone too smart to love you, and they're gonna love you anyway, and it's gonna go so poorly," Neil Hilborn writes in his debut full-length collection, OUR NUMBERED DAYS. In 2013, Hilborn's poem "OCD" went viral, and has amassed over 11 million views to date. While this collection ruminates on love, heartbreak, and mental illness, these poems are anything but saccharine. Hilborn uses the same humor and self-deprecation that propelled "OCD" to success in order to make his unmatched vulnerability all the more powerful. Ultimately, Hilborn is a poet of the people: his work is accessible, honest, and entertaining―a revitalizing entry in contemporary poetry.

Neil's poems always leave me feeling in awe of his way with words.

Title:No Matter The Wreckage
Author: Sarah Kay
Following the success of her breakout poem, "B", Sarah Kay, in collaboration with illustrator Sophia Janowitz, releases her debut collection of poetry featuring work from the first decade of her career. No Matter the Wreckage presents readers with new and beloved poetry that showcases Kay's talent for celebrating family, love, travel, and unlikely romance between inanimate objects ("The Toothbrush to the Bicycle Tire"). Both fresh and wise, Kay's poetry allows readers to join her on the journey of discovering herself and the world around her. It is an honest and powerful collection.
This poem is great! It hits you in all the feels.

Title: Milk and Honey
Author: Rupi Kaur
#1 New York Times bestseller Milk and Honey is a collection of poetry and prose about survival. About the experience of violence, abuse, love, loss, and femininity.

The book is divided into four chapters, and each chapter serves a different purpose. Deals with a different pain. Heals a different heartache. Milk and Honey takes readers through a journey of the most bitter moments in life and finds sweetness in them because there is sweetness everywhere if you are just willing to look.

Title:Satan Says
Author:Sharon Olds

Poems examine life as a child, a woman, and a mother; death; and our relationship to the world. This book, Olds's first, was published when she was 37, and it launched her Pulitzer-winning career.

I am trying to write my
way out of the closed box
redolent of cedar. Satan
comes to me in the locked box
and says, I'll get you out. Say
My father is a shit. I say
my father is a shit and Satan
laughs and says, It's opening.

Waiting on Wednesday(69):Lord of Shadows

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill from  Breaking the Spine and specifically spotlights upcoming novels we can't wait to read. As always, there are some amazing upcoming books, but this week I'm particularly excited for..

Cassandra Clare is milking that Shadowhunter cash cow for sure...but honestly each series and short story are greats reads so I don't see why people complain.

Review:Ash and Bramble

Title: Ash & Bramble
Author: Sarah Phineas
Published September 15th 2015
Publisher: HarperTeen

A prince.

A ball.

A glass slipper left behind at the stroke of midnight.

The tale is told and retold, twisted and tweaked, snipped and stretched, as it leads to happily ever after.

But it is not the true Story.

A dark fortress.

A past forgotten.

A life of servitude.

No one has ever broken free of the Godmother’s terrible stone prison until a girl named Pin attempts a breathless, daring escape. But she discovers that what seems to be freedom is a prison of another kind, one that entangles her in a story that leads to a prince, a kiss, and a clock striking midnight. To unravel herself from this new life, Pin must choose between a prince and another—the one who helped her before and who would give his life for her. Torn, the only thing for her to do is trade in the glass slipper for a sword and find her own destiny.

***********************

If you know me then you now that i'm a sucker for Fairy-tale retelling's. I picked up this book on a whim and i'm definitely glad I did.The concept of this fairy tale retelling is definitely interesting and a bit eerie . The main characters live in a world where the Godmother is evil and kidnaps people,

Pin wakes up one day with no memory of her past life, she is told that she is a seamstress and that all she is now is a seamstress. In the beginning I kinda liked Pin she was brash and just wanted to find out about her before. Then insert name change ( Pen) and lost memories..after all that my investment in Pin/Pen kinda wavered. She was still intriguing but at times I was over her in general. The secondary characters really did it for me.I would love to know more about the story-breakers in the Ash & Bramble world!!! Shoe was a great love interest and he was probably my favorite character. I'd really like to know why he did what he did at the end.

The cover is gorgeous and  I  think it fits the story pretty well. The story was slow and  confusing at times. I feel like Ash & Bramble could have been great but there are so many plot holes it's not even funny.I mentioned that i'm a sucker for Fairy-tale retelling's right?? That means I wanted to love this book I really did but when I finished Ash & Bramble I felt a bit meh about the story. With all that being said I may still check out the sequel. 2/5

Review:You're Welcome,Universe

Title: You're Welcome,Universe
Author:Whitney Gardner
Publisher: Knopf

A vibrant, edgy, fresh new YA voice for fans of More Happy Than Not and Simon vs. the HomoSapiens Agenda, packed with interior graffiti.

When Julia finds a slur about her best friend scrawled across the back of the Kingston School for the Deaf, she covers it up with a beautiful (albeit illegal) graffiti mural.

Her supposed best friend snitches, the principal expels her, and her two mothers set Julia up with a one-way ticket to a “mainstream” school in the suburbs, where she’s treated like an outcast as the only deaf student. The last thing she has left is her art, and not even Banksy himself could convince her to give that up.

Out in the ’burbs, Julia paints anywhere she can, eager to claim some turf of her own. But Julia soon learns that she might not be the only vandal in town. Someone is adding to her tags, making them better, showing off—and showing Julia up in the process. She expected her art might get painted over by cops. But she never imagined getting dragged into a full-blown graffiti war.

************************************
Deaf culture. Graffiti artists. Words and artwork combining to tell the story. Sounds like this books has it all right...Well it does and it doesn't. I wanted to like this book I really did, but honestly it wasn't for me.Which is a shame because not to long ago this book was featured on a W.O.W  post of mine.

The characters were okay characters, the type that you'll forget within a month or two.It took a lot for me to like Julia she wasn't very likable... like at all.The story had a lot going for it but I felt like the characters were flat. One of the few things that I do really enjoy about this book is the emphasis on friendship. The main thing about Julia's story besides art/graffiti is the message that good friends ship ACTUAL good friendship is a wonderful thing. I like how this book doesn't have romance, just a great relationship dynamic between Julia and her new friend, Yoga Pants.

I stand by what I said in my W.O.W about the cover of You're Welcome,Universe,it is absolutly gorgeous love all the vibrant colors and the fact that there is a POC on the cover sadly that's not something you see all that often. You're Welcome,Universe wasn't really my cup of tea even though I had high hopes for the book.Despite the fact that I wasn't all for You're Welcome,Universe  I do think it has it's merits. 2/5

Waiting on Wednesday (68)Saints and Misfits

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill from  Breaking the Spine and specifically spotlights upcoming novels we can't wait to read. As always, there are some amazing upcoming books, but this week I'm particularly excited for..

Title: Saints and Misfits
Author: S.K.Ali
Release Date:  June 13th 2017 by
Publisher:  Salaam Reads / Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers

Saints and Misfits is an unforgettable debut novel that feels like a modern day My So-Called Life…starring a Muslim teen.

How much can you tell about a person just by looking at them?

Janna Yusuf knows a lot of people can’t figure out what to make of her…an Arab Indian-American hijabi teenager who is a Flannery O’Connor obsessed book nerd, aspiring photographer, and sometime graphic novelist is not exactly easy to put into a box.

And Janna suddenly finds herself caring what people think. Or at least what a certain boy named Jeremy thinks. Not that she would ever date him—Muslim girls don’t date. Or they shouldn’t date. Or won’t? Janna is still working all this out.

While her heart might be leading her in one direction, her mind is spinning in others. She is trying to decide what kind of person she wants to be, and what it means to be a saint, a misfit, or a monster. Except she knows a monster…one who happens to be parading around as a saint…Will she be the one to call him out on it? What will people in her tight knit Muslim community think of her then?

So that's what I'm waiting. So how about you? Leave a link and let me know. :)
