Books I'd Give A Theme Song To-Top Ten(6)

Check out how Top Ten Tuesday works & the future schedule of topics HERE.
The Top Ten Tuesday, is hosted by the ever-fabulous The Broke and the Bookish
This  meme was created because they are particularly fond of lists at The Broke and the Bookish.
Top Ten Books I'd Give A Theme Song To:
(and please tell us the song and why you'd pick it for the book!)
  1. The Hunger Games:Picking a song for this book was tough but i decide to go with White Blank Page by Mumford and Son since it reminded me of Peeta and KatnissYou did not think when you sent me to the brink, to the brinkYou desired my attention, but denied my affections, my affectionsSo tell me now where was my fault, in loving you with my whole heart"
  2.  Amy and Roger's Epic Detour:Kids in Love By Mayday Parade The songs all about summer love and just enjoying your self. Also if you check out the music video its all about a road trip. There's something about thing song that reminds me of Amy and Roger.  "I look back to the one and only summer time And my girl was the envy of every friend of mine She slept safely in my arms We were so young and invincible"
  3.  Freshman Year & Other Unnatural Disasters-Meridith Zeitlin Kelsey's freshman year is filled with non stop laughs and her fiends are always their for her so i think that the song With a little Help by my Friends by the Beatles would fit.Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song And I'll try not to sing out of key.Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends Mm, I get high with a little help from my friendsMm, gonna try with a little help from my friends
  4. Good Oil - Laura Buzo- Superman by Joe Brookes I can't really say why this song is my pick for this book but to me it works. It could be a song Chris sings to his perfect girl and maybe Amelia or maybe Amelia to Chris. It fits nicely with their not-friendship-not-love relationship"But I can only write this song, And tell you that I'm not that strong. 'cause I'm no supermaaaan,I hope you like me as I am."
  5. Hallowed -Cynthia Hand- Terrible Things by Mayday Parade I feel like this song fits in perfectly with the book it a sad touching song.Clara's torn between her love for Tucker and her complicated feelings about the roles she and Christian seem destined to play in a world that is both dangerous and beautiful "Don't fall in love It's just too much to lose if given the choice Then I'm begging you to choose To walk away, walk away"
  6. Awkward Marni Bates-Weightless by All Time Low Mackenzie is tossed in the limelight and maybe she could relate to this song"Manage me, I'm a messTurn a page, I'm a book half unreadI wanna be laughed at, laughed with, just becauseI wanna feel weightless and that should be enough"
  7.  Breathe - Abbi Glines I feel like the songs about two  people meet and become close, fall for each other and want to be together, but something is there stopping them so it fit with the story.Beauty in the Breakdown by the Scene aesthetic " Come on, take a step towards me So you can figure me out I've been hoping and praying for a single way To show you what I'm all about"
  8. Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver-The Way we Talk by The Maine for Samantha in the beginning of the story the song reminds me of how her and her friends act"She's fresh to death, She'll be the death of you,Seduction leads to destruction" and What i wanted to say by Colbie Caillat for Sam at the end of the story."Cause all I wanted to say was something real  All I want you to know is how I feel  All I wanted to give was my heart but I'm stuck here at the start"
  9.  Kiss Crush Collide - Christina Meredith Leah has it all. The parents with a lot of money, the awesome sisters that are there for everything, and the best boyfriend in the world. The song is about not being afraid to show that you're human and not perfect something Leah could relate too.I am Not a Robot by Marina and the Diamonds "It's okay to say you've got a weak spot You don't always have to be on top Better to be hated than love, love, loved for what you're not"
  10. Nick and Nora's Ultimate Playlist-There are a few song that would fit this book but for a night filled with new love, drunk chicks, and finding Fluffy I picked Tonight's the Night by Outtasight"Tonight is the night is the night that were losing control Tonight is the night is the night we set it off"
So there you go my  list of Top Ten Books I'd give a theme song too.

First Author Interveiw-Meredith Zeitlin

Author Interview

Meredith Zeitlin is a writer and voice over artist who lives in  Brooklyn with two adorable feline roommates. She also writes a column for Ladygunn Magazine, changes her hair color every few months, and has many fancy pairs of spectacles.

She is the author of Freshman year and other Natural Disasters which is coming out March 1,2012.

You can learn more about the book here: www.kelseyfinkelstein.com

Did you put personality traits of yourself, or the people in your life into the characters of your book? Oh, absolutely. Aside from Kelsey (who, let's face it, IS me), many of the characters - particularly Kelsey's friends - have characteristics of people I know. They're like little kaleidoscopes of many of my friends, some of whom I HAVE known since high school! The character of JoJo in particular is based on a single high school pal, but the second part of her story, which changed during the editing process, belongs to another, more recent friend (again, I don't want to give any spoilers, but when you read the book you'll know what I'm talking about). I wanted that part of the story to be really authentic, so this friend and I sat down and figured it out together.

The guys in Kelsey's life are the same - mostly invention, but smatterings of real guys I've known myself. Kelsey's mother is my mother - feel free to ask anyone who knows her. Or just ask her - she'll tell you herself! The Julie Nelson character is loosely based on a junior who tortured me in high school when I was a freshman. The happy ending to that story is that we actually remet as adults and became friends. (And yes, she knows she's in the book. She didn't even remember being horrible to me - in fact, she told me that she was totally insecure and miserable herself most of the time. Which goes to show that, while obviously there's no good reason to be deliberately mean to someone, usually insecurity is to blame. Not sure what the actual solution there is, but it bears thinking about, right?)

Kelsey's freshman year was pretty eventful, was your freshman year anything like hers? My freshman year was both really hard and ultimately really rewarding. I started at a brand new school that year - and it was an all-girls' school, which I was NOT thrilled about. I had to maneuver my way around a totally unfamiliar campus (it was made up of many different buildings and not just one like my old school) and make all new friends, which was especially tricky because many of the girls had been going to school together since they were babies. Suffice it to say, there were rock-solid cliques that had existed for years. And of course I missed my friends from middle school. But I actually ended up loving it - I did make lots of friends, and figure out where to sit at lunch, and got cast in a lead role in the school play, and somehow ended up on the lacrosse team - a sport I'd never even heard of before. (In a related story, I was TERRIBLE at it. But I stuck it out, just like Kelsey does.) Of course, this is me as an adult looking back - at the time I know I was incredibly frustrated much of the time - it's hard to be new. It took a long time for things to be mostly fun instead of mostly terrifying. At the same time, I had this amazing opportunity to start with a clean slate and be whoever I wanted to be. Ironically, I think I stayed pretty much the same as I'd always been. I guess I'm just... me.

Now, I don't want to spoil the book by giving anything away... but I will say this: almost everything that happens to Kelsey in the book is based on experiences from my real life, which happened at about the same time. I am, and have always been, disaster-prone. My freshman year was no exception!

If you could hang out with any fictional character who would it be? Hm, that's a hard one! Aside from the obvious gorgeous guy characters... I think Bridget Jones and I would have a killer night on the town. Unless we spontaneously combusted from too many neurotic thoughts in one place at the same time, of course.

Which of your supporting characters would be perfect for a spin-off or novella and why? I've actually considered doing a spin-off about Travis, Kelsey's little sister. And I haven't ruled it out yet...

What can we expect next from you?  I wrote a children's picture book that I'm hoping will find a home soon, and a friend and I wrote a super-creepy horror feature. (So, some pretty different stuff!) I'm also working on another YA novel. It's not a sequel to Freshman Year..., but it takes place in the same world, so you'll see some of the characters again.

In 4 words how would you describe FRESHMAN YEAR AND OTHER UNNATURAL DISASTERS? Book to read now!

Author:Marc Jonhson
Published:March 19th 2011
Publisher: Longshot Publishing

Far from home, Alexandria's princess is abducted. When a young villager named Hellsfire stumbles upon her and her captors, he rushes in to rescue her, alone and unarmed. His fear and fury unleash an uncontrollable magical force that grants him the power to save the princess-and change the world.

Hellsfire has never craved nor dreamed of power. But such magic as he now possesses has not been seen in Northern Shala for a thousand years, since the devastation of the War of the Wizards and the creation of the Wastelands.

Now Hellsfire must leave all he's ever known, and make a dangerous journey to learn to master this wild, ferocious power-power he knows he is not ready to wield. More difficult still, he needs to master his emotions. If he can't, the power will consume him, Alexandria will fall, and darkness will eclipse the land, destroying everyone he loves.

In the dead of cold, the spark shall burn...

**********

I'm definitely glad I stumbled upon this book. Now before i start talking about the book i should let you know that the book as of right now only come in digital format but don't let that discourage you.Everyone love a hard copy of a book you can hold it and smell that new book smell but e-books are everywhere now a day so if you happen to like a intriguig tale of wizards, dragons, other mythical creatures and a feisty  princess then this E-book is for you.

Now Born in the darkness, and named by a stranger, Hellsfire lives a life of poverty yet full of love. At fourteen Hellsfire knows he is different. He doesn't realize how different till he runs across Princess Krystal in the woods shes running from bandits and Hellfire seeing this offers his assistance. He used his strange power on local bullies earlier and uses it again to help the Princess. After her guards find her and the two part ways. Hellfire goes home and tell his strange tale to his mom.She tells him some shocking news and then that's when things start to get interesting.
My favorite character was the Princess Krystal. You have to be impressed with a girl who can fight and use a sword like a pro.Despite being helped by Hellsfire in the woods shes defiantly not some damsel in distress Then there was  a dangerous dragon named Cynder who I became fond of.Hellfire is a honest character who to me seem a bit to mature for his age and stiff but he grew on me.

The cover is simple but to the point. It seems to tie into the story perfectly.I enjoyed reading this book.It remind me of a  video game or maybe a show on Scfy. Now even if that doesn't sound like your thing you should check it out anyway who knows it may surprise you.It definitely surprised me,Catalyst is a good read for any age.3/5
