In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.
During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.
dystopian thrillers filled with electrifying decisions, heartbreaking betrayals, stunning consequences, and unexpected romance.
Gaaa!! I'm in love with dystopian story's so when i found out about this book i was all excited plus it takes place in my home town.(Woot Woo Chi-town) I think the cover is extremely lovely i just adore the skyline in the background plus the flaming symbol.
The main character is Beatrice Prior AKA Tris she is a member of a society that has been maintaining its peaceful existence by separating its citizens into 5 distinct factions. These factions are formed on the basis of virtues they cultivate in their members - Candor values honesty the most, Abnegation - selflessness, Dauntless - bravery, Amity - peacefulness and Erudite - intelligence She has to chose between all five and I'm not going to lie i would chose between Candor or Amity.
At 16 all citizens take a test that is supposed to help them decide if they want to stay with the faction into which they were born or transfer to another faction forever.Right before the choosing ceremony they take a test to help them decide Beatrice's test comes up inconclusive he has no idea what this means and she cant talk about it with any on so now shes even more confused.
She ends up picking dauntless in stead of abnegation and has to leave everything shes once known behind.Though out the book she goes though her intuition to become dauntless. She picks up some friends along the way plus a enemy or two and a confusing love interest.
I would definitely suggest this book to any one who's interested in an a wonderful dystopian book that contains loads of action, slow romance,Kick-Ass heroine and a super flawed society. All in all i would give the book an 8/10 or a 4/5
OMG! I loved DIVERGENT. It deserves a 10 instead of an 8 :P Just kidding; great review!
