Read for the contemps challenge
Seventeen-year-old Bianca Piper is cynical and loyal, and she doesn't think she's the prettiest of her friends by a long shot. She's also way too smart to fall for the charms of man-slut and slimy school hottie Wesley Rush. In fact, Bianca hates him. And when he nicknames her "Duffy," she throws her Coke in his face.
But things aren't so great at home right now. Desperate for a distraction, Bianca ends up kissing Wesley. And likes it. Eager for escape, she throws herself into a closeted enemies-with-benefits relationship with Wesley.
Until it all goes horribly awry. It turns out that Wesley isn't such a bad listener, and his life is pretty screwed up, too. Suddenly Bianca realizes with absolute horror that she's falling for the guy she thought she hated more than anyone.
********************************
The cover in my option is cute and quirky,Its featuring a average looking teen girl which ties in perfectly with the story.
It all starts with Bianca the narrator of the book just hanging with her friends Casey and Jessica at the teen hangout The Nest, then were introduced to Wesley Rush. That's when the word Duff( Designated Ugly Fat Friend) is introduced.Wesley's theory is that every group of girls has a Duff in it, to make themselves look better. Bianca hurt and pissed she reacts by throwing her soda in his face and storming out of the club. After Bianca first hears that word she constantly thinks about how she looks and ponders about what makes a Duff.
Bianca deals with self esteem issues, divorce, keeping secrets from her best friends, and her causal fling with Wesley
I like the fact that Bianca the narrator and main character is this smart ass no nonsense chick who's kinda the self proclaimed protector of her friends.I didn't like the fact that at first she seems snobby like shes better then her friends and the rest of her peers. Then there is Wesley who's the ladies man sleeps with any thing that moves.I really didn't get his appeal other then the fact that he was good looking, but towards the ends i started to like him just a little bit more.
All in all i would recommend this book to any one who likes witty one-liners and friends with benefits.3/5
