by Peter Gulgowski
In the year 2084, Every Interaction Counts.
Darrius Young's sixteenth birthday brings a harsh reality: It's time to join the Voting Game. Playing is mandatory, and each day may be his last.
In this bleak future's society, citizens rate their interactions with one another. Highest scorers are members of an elite upper-class. An average score means you can keep playing.
Fall below average? You are taken and killed by the government entity known only as The Bureau.
Darrius has prepared his whole life for this challenge, knowing the reality he will soon face — especially after the death of his mother to the game.
But despite preparation, he's losing — and not just the Game. Suddenly the people he loves are getting brutally downvoted and taken by the Bureau. It's soon clear there's a target on his back, drawn there by the Bureau itself, and Darrius has no idea why.
In a frantic race against time in a society that’s already sentenced him to death, can Darrius save himself and those around him before it’s too late?

Ummm....I'm not sure where to start, corruption, an amazing father, and oh! romantical feelings or love but I adored this book. This is the first book I have read by Peter, and it will not be my last. I truly enjoyed reading The Voting Game, the characters were awesome, and written to perfection. The annoying character...welp yeah that happened lol! Darrius is a sweetheart! You just want to hug him, and tell him everything will be okay. WE DID NOT GET ENOUGH OF JADA...sorry for the all caps but I'm trying to make a point! There relationship was so nice, it reminded me of my siblings. I love Mr.Young, he is selfless in every sense of the word, he is what you want every father to be like. This was a quick read but oh boy was it worth it. Leave it to Peter to make The Voting Game relateable, scary, heartbreaking, and realistic. I think that is the humbling part of his book, is you can totally see this happening in the future to make a "better society"...like. The government controls everyone with a voting (rating)system, using clickers. Clickers are exactly what you're thinking, they allow you rate a person based off their behavior. No one wants anything less than 2.5..... The ENDING, I definitely cried while reading it, talk about being unprepared!
